Alocasia Sarian - 2.5L / 17cm / Medium

$30.00

Alocasia Sarian, known for its striking arrow-shaped leaves and prominent white veins, is a tropical showstopper that thrives indoors or in warm, humid climates. Follow these guidelines to keep your Alocasia Sarian healthy year-round, including managing its dormancy period in winter.

1. Lighting

  • Indoors: Place your Alocasia Sarian in bright, indirect light. A spot near an east or west-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves, but ensure it gets sufficient light to maintain its vibrant growth.
  • Outdoors: If placed outside, provide dappled sunlight or partial shade. Avoid harsh midday sun.

2. Watering

  • Growing Season (Spring to Early Autumn):
    • Water thoroughly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Alocasia Sarian prefers consistent moisture but dislikes soggy soil, which can lead to root rot.
    • Use well-draining soil and ensure pots have adequate drainage holes.
  • Dormant Season (Late Autumn to Winter):
    • Reduce watering as the plant slows down its growth. Let the soil dry out more between waterings to prevent overwatering.

3. Humidity and Temperature

  • Thrives in high humidity levels of 60% or more. If indoors, use a humidifier, mist the leaves regularly, or place the pot on a pebble tray with water.
  • Maintain temperatures between 65°F–85°F (18°C–29°C). Avoid cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, or placing the plant near heaters or air conditioning vents.

4. Fertilizer

  • During the growing season, feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. Stop fertilizing in late autumn as the plant enters dormancy.

5. Dormancy Notes

Alocasia Sarian often enters dormancy in winter, especially in cooler climates or when light levels drop. Here’s how to handle dormancy:

  • Recognizing Dormancy:
    • The plant may stop producing new leaves, and existing leaves may yellow or die back. This is normal and not a sign of plant death.
  • Caring for Dormant Plants:
    • Reduce watering and stop fertilizing.
    • Move the plant to a slightly cooler spot but ensure it still gets bright, indirect light.
    • Do not remove the plant from its pot unless the soil is excessively wet or if you need to inspect the roots for rot.

6. Reviving in Spring

As spring approaches, Alocasia Sarian will wake from dormancy. Here’s what to do:

  1. Gradually increase watering as you notice new growth.
  2. Resume fertilizing with a diluted liquid fertilizer to support its active growing phase.
  3. If needed, repot into fresh soil in late spring to refresh nutrients and allow for healthy root growth.

Additional Tips

  • Keep the leaves clean by wiping them with a damp cloth to remove dust and enhance photosynthesis.
  • Watch for pests like spider mites and mealybugs, which can be more active during dry indoor winters.

By following these care instructions, your Alocasia Sarian will thrive, returning with lush, dramatic foliage after its winter rest

Toxicity: Mildly toxic to pets and people.

Plant Size Guide

The plant in the photos is an example and an approximate guide only however we try to show an average sized example. Sizes, flowering state and colours change throughout the seasons and variation will occur. In summer & autumn, plants are often larger or the same size as than the example picture but around winter and spring, they can be a little smaller but still at a size similar to the example. We aim to update the pictures to reflect significant differences.
