Calathea 'White Fusion'

Calathea 'White Fusion' is a rare and highly decorative houseplant known for its striking marbled foliage, where white, green and lavender tones swirl together across each leaf. The variegation is truly unique—no two leaves are the same—with brushstroke-like patterns that appear almost hand-painted. The undersides of the leaves are soft purple, and the plant’s elegant, upright habit makes it ideal for tabletops, shelves or bright corners where its bold colouring can be admired up close.

Like many Calatheas, ‘White Fusion’ can be fussy about its environment, but when happy, it rewards with stunning, constantly unfolding new leaves. It’s a statement piece for collectors and a true tropical showstopper.

Non-toxic to pets.

Comprehensive Care Instructions for Calathea 'White Fusion'

Lighting Requirements

Indoors: Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain variegation. Too little light will cause fading; too much direct sun may scorch the white portions.
Outdoors (mild climates): Grow in full shade or filtered light in a sheltered, frost-free spot.

Watering Regimen

Active Growth (Spring to Early Autumn):
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3cm feels dry. Use filtered or rainwater if possible, as this plant is sensitive to salts and chlorine.
Cooler Months:
Water less frequently, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly before rewatering.

Temperature & Humidity

Thrives in warm conditions between 18°C–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and heaters.
Requires high humidity (60%+). Use a humidifier, pebble tray or place in a naturally humid room like a bathroom or laundry.

Fertilizing

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. Avoid overfeeding, which may damage roots or leaf edges.

Pruning & Maintenance

Trim away damaged or browning leaves at the base. Wipe foliage gently with a damp cloth to keep leaves clean and vibrant.
Rotate the plant occasionally to maintain even shape.

Repotting

Repot every 1–2 years in spring using a well-draining, peat-based mix with added perlite or coco coir. Avoid compacted soils.

Pests & Troubleshooting

May be affected by spider mites, fungus gnats or mealybugs in dry or stagnant conditions.
Crispy or curling leaf edges usually indicate low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Faded variegation often means the plant needs more light.

Important Note: Worth the Extra Effort

Calathea 'White Fusion' requires a bit of attention, but it’s one of the most spectacular foliage plants available. With the right balance of light, water and humidity, it can thrive as a luminous, living piece of art.

Plant Size Guide

The plant in the photos is an example and an approximate guide only however we try to show an average sized example. Sizes, flowering state and colours change throughout the seasons and variation will occur. Plants typically take just a day or two to arrive, however they are usually fine in their cartons for 1-2 weeks, and many can go longer, so a few extra days are not usually cause for concern.

Whether it takes 1 or 7 days, let your plant recover from its journey by placing in gentle light and adding a little water and it will be back to its best within a couple of days. Let us know if there are any major issues via the contact page.
